Privacy Policy

What we collect
You can browse Nightlife Asia Wiki without an account. If you create one, we store your email address, your display name and your password (hashed: we never store or see the plain text). With an account you can add:
- reviews: a rating, your text, and optionally the month you visited, what you spent and photos;
- comments on pages;
- bookmarks and "helpful" votes on reviews;
- your My Night plan: the venues and guides you add to it and your notes, saved to your account so it follows you between devices.
Anyone, signed in or not, can send a report (a correction or a closure, with its details and any evidence you give) or a venue ownership claim (your name, business email, role and message). If you are signed in when you send one, it is linked to your account. Reports and claims are read only by our moderators.
Review photos are re-encoded when you upload them, which removes location, device and time metadata, and are shown once a moderator approves them.
What is public
Reviews, approved review photos and comments are public and shown with your display name. Choose a name that doesn't identify you if you prefer to stay anonymous; given the subject matter of this site, we'd encourage that. Bookmarks, votes, your plan, reports and claims are not shown to other visitors.
Analytics
We use Vercel Analytics and Google Analytics (GA4) to understand aggregate traffic: page views, country, device type, and how visitors move through the site. Vercel Analytics does not use cookies. Google Analytics sets first-party cookies and sends usage data to Google, which processes it on our behalf; we do not use it to serve you ads. To tell whether to ask first, the site looks up your country from your connection and keeps only the answer, in your browser. Visitors in the EEA, the UK, and Switzerland are asked for consent first, and Google Analytics stays off there until they accept it. Anyone can turn it off, or back on, with "Privacy choices" at the bottom of every page, or opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out add-on.
Spam protection and security
Sign-up, password reset, reviews, comments, reports and claims are protected by Cloudflare Turnstile. It processes technical signals from your browser to tell humans from bots, and when we check its answer we send Cloudflare your IP address. To limit abuse we count recent requests per IP address or account in our servers' memory; these counts are never written to storage. When the site fails in your browser, it reports only the type of error, an error code and the page address, never what you typed.
Who processes your data
We do not sell or rent your data or run third-party ads. We share information only with the providers that run the site for us, and only as far as they need it:
- Vercel: hosting (your requests, including your IP address, pass through it), file storage for review photos, and Vercel Analytics;
- Neon: our database, which holds accounts, reviews, comments, bookmarks, votes, plans, reports and claims;
- Google: Google Analytics, as described above;
- Cloudflare: Turnstile spam protection;
- CARTO: the map tiles on venue, city and directory pages. Your browser loads them from CARTO, which sees your IP address;
- Resend: when we send you an email (account verification or a password reset link), it delivers it.
The site and its database run in Singapore. Some of these providers process data in other countries.
How long we keep it
We keep your account and what you added until you delete the account or ask us to delete it. Password reset links expire after an hour and email verification links after a day. Reports and claims are kept as moderation records; when the account that sent one is deleted, it is kept without the link to that account. Google Analytics data is kept for the retention period set in our Google Analytics account.
Your choices and requests
On your account page you can change your display name and permanently delete your account. Deleting it removes your reviews with their photos, your comments, bookmarks, votes and My Night plan, and signs you out. A staff account must first be changed back to a regular account by an admin.
To get a copy of your data, correct it, remove a single review or comment, or make any other privacy request, email contact@nightlifeasia.wiki from the address on your account. We may ask you to confirm the request from that address.
Age
The site is for adults of legal age where they live, and at least 18. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone younger.
