Ho Chi Minh City, still widely called Saigon, is covered here mainly through its hostess bars and KTVs (karaoke lounges), with a short list of nightclubs. At a hostess venue you pay for drinks, a seat or private room and the company of hostesses for conversation and karaoke, and the bill is built from those parts.

Where to go. Since 1 July 2025 the city has had no districts: its wards and communes were merged, and it now also takes in the former Bình Dương and Bà Rịa-Vũng Tàu provinces. Venues, maps and drivers still use the old district names, so both are given here. Most of the site's hostess bars are in Japantown, the lanes off Lê Thánh Tôn and Thái Văn Lung streets; the Ho Chi Minh City Japantown Hostess Bar Guide explains how to find their alley addresses. A second group lines Pasteur, Huỳnh Thúc Kháng and Tôn Thất Thiệp streets near the Bitexco Financial Tower. Both areas are in Sài Gòn ward (formerly Bến Nghé ward, District 1). Most KTVs are either on Lê Lai, Sương Nguyệt Ánh and Bùi Thị Xuân streets in Bến Thành ward (formerly the Phạm Ngũ Lão and Bến Thành wards of District 1) or along Trần Hưng Đạo and An Dương Vương streets in the former District 5, now Chợ Quán, An Đông and Chợ Lớn wards.

How a night runs. Where the listings give hours, more than half of the hostess bars open around 7 p.m. and close between midnight and 2 a.m., and a few stay open until dawn. KTVs with listed hours mostly open between late morning and early evening and close between 2 and 4 a.m. For a KTV room, message the venue first with your group size and arrival time.

What it costs. As of October 2026, the published menu of Barbie Bar in Japantown shows how those parts are priced. There is no cover charge at the door. A counter seat costs VND 150,000 per person and a sofa seat VND 260,000 per person, while a karaoke room starts at VND 500,000 per person per hour for the room alone. Beers and hostess drinks cost VND 180,000 to 420,000 each, and VAT, service and card fees are added to the total.

Avoiding overcharges. Read the menu before you sit down and check whether each price is per person, per hour or per drink, since charges grow with group size and time. Agree before you buy a hostess a drink, add a hostess or stay past the first hour; the same menu adds VND 260,000 per hostess per hour after 2 a.m. Ask what the VAT, service and card fees come to, and check the itemised bill against what you ordered. Turn down touts who offer to walk you to a bar.

Getting home. Book Grab, Green SM (formerly Xanh SM) or Be in the app for the whole journey, and be wary of anyone claiming to be from those companies without a booking; metered taxis from the larger firms are the fallback. Metro Line 1 runs from Bến Thành to Suối Tiên until about 10 p.m. on weekdays and 11 p.m. at weekends. Vietnam bans driving or riding with any alcohol in the blood or breath, so leave a rented motorbike at the hotel. Bag snatching by thieves on motorbikes is common, so keep your phone away from the roadside while you wait.
