You finally made it to a Singapore KTV, and you will definitely be thinking when you see the line-up of hostesses: who should I choose? Honestly, we've made some questionable choices the first time we went to one, and looking back we sometimes regret them. But you don’t have to go through that. Let’s turn you into a pro today.

Take your time to look at the girls

The first time you see 10-15 waiting for you, you’ll feel pressured. Don’t be. Take your time to look at all of their faces. Which ones are your type? Which ones are smiling at you? Who is waving and calling out to you? That’s usually a good sign that they like you. We’ve gotten some of the best experiences by letting the girl “choose” us instead of us choosing them. If you don't see anyone you like at first, wait for the next round. The manager will try their best to bring someone who fits your style. Spend 20-30 seconds really looking at them and see if you like anyone. If not, the mummy will bring in more waves of girls for you subsequently. You don't have to make up your mind immediately, although you might have to wait longer to see other girls later as the KTV gets busy.

What are they dressed in?

Hostesses can wear anything they like. They can range from t-shirts and jeans to skimpy dresses. The less they’re wearing, the better. That gives you access to the fun parts. If you want some fun, look for those who are dressed as little as possible.

There are no hard and fast rules though. If someone else strikes your fancy, go ahead and pick them. They might be a good surprise.

Ask the mummy/papa, or wait for new girls

If all else fails and you cannot make a decision, you can either ask the mummy/papa for your preference. Does she speak English? Chinese? Does she know how to play games and hold a conversation well? Who can be brought out after the KTV session? All these questions can be answered by them. Otherwise, you can opt to wait for new girls as the managers will try their best to make sure you are seated with one within the first hour.

Choosing additional girls, replacing them

You can also choose more than 1 girl or as many as your wallet allows, in 1 session. Just ask your manager to bring more for you and pick them. Just keep in mind that if you have more than 1, you probably won’t see them come in together. What they'll try to do is to tell each other when they leave so the other can come back so you'll spend less time alone.

If it isn’t working out with a certain girl and there’s no chemistry, you can request to replace her for a fraction of the tip. This is acceptable and you should not feel bad to do so - unless you replace the girls habitually, which will usually make everyone unhappy. If they've just came back once, usually it's ok to skip the tip. S$30-S$50 will be enough depending on how many times they've been back. You can discuss this with the mummy, so there’s no awkwardness.

Try to do it at most on the 2nd time they come back. After the 3rd time, it won't be reasonable to cancel for less than $50, unless you encounter very bad service.

Quick note on playability

While we all go to the KTV for playability and the chance to touch a girl, it is not guaranteed that every girl will be as playable as the next. This all depends on how comfortable you make them feel, and vice versa. Well-dressed customers with good hygiene and being able to carry a conversation will bring you further than others who come and expect to just "play" the girls. They are humans too, and as customers we need to sometimes put in some work for the best experiences. But generally, some playability should be expected.

There are also other girls who are more of a companion and prefer to sing, drink, and talk to you. These are perfect for customers who prefer discretion and do not want to have any trace of perfumes, lipstick or glitter when they leave.

Be a gracious customer!

Lastly, we highly encourage all customers to avoid getting into fights or getting too drunk and creating problems for the party. There have been instances where people have not paid up, fought with other customers, or just being an asshole/weird. This works to your detriment as the KTVs in Singapore are very connected and will circulate such information to other joints. In the case of any disagreements, we hope they can be solved amicably with the involvement of the mummy and managers.
